Condition Report:
The dial is a gorgeous glossy sunburst silver which always seems to draw the eyes in for another look. The dial's design and execution remains simple as "less is more" - simple steel bar hour markers, a rounded rectangular day window at 6 o'clock with black weekday's; blue Saturday and red Sunday text, a date window at 3 o'clock, a Seiko logo seen at 12 o'clock and Seikomatic branding just under the hands. There's also a graduated chapter ring and finishing the dial are dauphine stainless steel hands. The crown is inset to the case design at 4 o'clock. The caseback is faded which is common for this specific model and is original. There are minor hairline scratches through the case. Inside the watch is the Seikosha 400 movement (which was the first day & date made by Seiko), it is not capable of hacking but does have a quickset date function.
Seiko Weekdater History:
In 1964, the Seikomatic Weekdater J13080 was formally introduced to the Japanese watch market and was slated as the flagship watch of the Seiko automatic line up. In effect, the Weekdater was mainline Seiko’s equivalent to the Grand Seiko, before the appearance of the first automatic Grand Seiko in 1967.
