This example of the Rolex Explorer II Ref. 16570 dates to 2001 (K serial), it's the ever-classic iteration of the Explorer II with a glossy black dial. Apart of the Explorer family, the Explorer II wasn't designed for conquering mountain peaks, it was crafted with the intent of delving into the depths of caves.

Featuring a 24-hour hand and a fixed bezel, it was tailored to assist spelunkers and Arctic adventurers in maintaining their bearings, especially in environments where distinguishing between day and night could be challenging. Although resembling a GMT watch with its distinctive arrow-shaped fourth hand and steel bezel, its functionality differed significantly. Unlike the Rolex GMT-Master, the bezel was stationary and the 24-hour hand was not independently adjustable from the primary time (although this feature was later incorporated in subsequent versions).

The Explorer II is an all encompassing sports watch and has been apart of Rolex's line up since 1971. Sitting at 40mm in diameter, 47mm lug to lug and 12.2mm in thickness it will look right at home on various wrist sizes. The watch is also water resistant to 150m. Powering the watch is Rolex's Caliber. 3185, it allows for quickly setting the date and hour which fully harnesses the GMT function for traveling.
