This specific iteration of the iconic Rolex Day-Date pairs 18k yellow gold with an elegant and rare 'Japan No Lume' dial. While seemingly minor, the hands and dial of this watch lack any tritium, commonly found in watches during this era. Japan had imposed a ban on the use of the compound. In response, Rolex took a different approach, either removing tritium from dials and hands to cater to the Japanese market or crafting unique examples like this one, void of tritium slots in the hands or dials. The outcome is a remarkably minimal design for the watch, making it an enticing collectable for enthusiasts.
