The Heuer Carrera Ref. 2447N is among the most important steel chronographs of the 1960s — introduced in 1963 alongside the Rolex Daytona, penned by Jack Heuer, and built around a philosophy of radical legibility that placed function ahead of everything else. No extraneous elements. No decoration for its own sake. A 36mm steel case with long, elegant lugs, a black dial of strong contrast, and three registers arranged for immediate readability at speed. It is a watch designed by someone who understood what a racing driver needed to know in a glance, and that clarity has not diminished in six decades.
This 2nd Execution example carries the defining configuration of the 2447N — subsidiary seconds at 9 o'clock, 30-minute counter at 3, and 12-hour counter at 6, with the 'T Swiss' signature confirming tritium lume as original to the piece. The tritium plots are present throughout, with some scraping from age consistent with decades of honest use. The dial carries some natural patina around the hour markers, and the case shows signs of previous polishing — the lugs nonetheless remain sharp and well-proportioned. It is powered by the Valjoux 72, one of the great manual wind chronograph movements of the period, and comes presented on a Hodinkee black leather rally strap with pin buckle.
