Louis Cartier invented the Cartier Tank in 1917. Know today as the brands most iconic watch. The name and design derived from the Renault FT-17, a French tank that was used in combat throughout World War One. Using rectangular and square lines as the shape of the watch it keeps a relatively slim profile. Art deco inspired Roman numerals slant well onto the dial.
This Cartier Tank Solo Ref. W5200013/3170 is in great pre-owned condition. There are many hairline scratches around the bracelet and exterior of the case as the watch has never been polished. The watch measures 24mm in width and 40mm in length. Sized for ladies, it comes on its original full stainless steel bracelet measured to fit a 6 1/2" wrist. The sapphire crown winds well and sits subtly at 3 o'clock. Powered by a quartz movement the watch will be low maintenance for its new owner. We've placed this watch's approximate year of production in 2010. The buyer can request us to polish this watch if they wish.
Personal Comments:
One of the most recognisable and well sought after watches. Throughout history there have been many famous Cartier Tank owners from Muhammed Ali, Andy Warhol, Princess Diana and Jacquie Kennedy. Today the Cartier Tank is one of the must have dress watches in someone's collection be it male or female.
