Cartier Tank Basculante Ref. 2390 'Millennium Edition' 1999 w/ Box & Papers
The Tank Basculante made its debut in 1933, drawing inspiration from the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso, a remarkable dual-sided sports timepiece designed to swivel within its case, safeguarding its dial. Staying true to this innovative concept, the Basculante also featured a swivelling mechanism within its case to protect its dial. However, it differed from the Reverso in that it rotated on its vertical axis, enabling it to stand upright during rotation and function as a table clock when desired. The elegant transformation was gracefully achieved through the central jewel of the watch, which the user could effortlessly open with a simple flick of their nail.
